Roosevelt Union Free School District

Roosevelt Rising! 'A District of Distinction'

Our district seeks to educate the whole child to excel.  For our students to excel we must provide them with 21st century skills.  The term 21st century skills refers to a broad set of knowledge, skills, work habits, and character traits that are believed to be critically important to success in today’s world, particularly in collegiate programs and contemporary careers and workplaces.  While the specific skills deemed to be “21st century skills” may be defined, categorized, and determined differently from person to person, place to place, or school to school, the term does reflect a general—if somewhat loose and shifting—consensus. Some of the skills commonly associated with include but are not limited to:

·         Critical thinking, problem solving, reasoning, analysis, interpretation, synthesizing information

·         Research skills and practices, interrogative questioning

·         Leadership, teamwork, collaboration, cooperation, facility in using virtual workspaces

·         Information and communication technology (ICT) literacy, media and internet literacy, data interpretation and analysis, computer programming

Couple this requirement to the new evaluation system that we have adopted and we must recognize the need to improve our personal technological capacity.  I have attached the rubric for Technology as it connects to the Danielson Teacher Evaluation Rubric.  I am also including below a series of free webinars provided by the InterCounty Teacher Resource Center.  I recommend that each person register for at least 3.
