To the Roosevelt community,
As we prepare for another exciting school year, the Board of Education and I congratulate our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Deborah Wortham. Dr. Wortham was recently tapped as an education expert for an interview with the renowned media outlet Market Scale.
Dr. Wortham was a guest speaker in an article titled "Developing Collective Efficacy Among Your Team: Insights from Superintendent Dr. Deborah Wortham's Transformative Approach to Education." The article lauded Dr. Wortham's leadership in Roosevelt and her achievement in cultivating effective relationships within our community that have helped students thrive. Dr. Wortham spoke about the District's strategic plan, created in 2020 with the Board of Education, a team of about 100 staff, students, and community members to improve student performance. She discussed other initiatives to foster support among staff and students, collaborating with principals and teachers and ensuring every student is equipped with the tools necessary to succeed.
Among our recent achievements, Dr. Wortham's interview highlighted that the Roosevelt Middle School and Roosevelt High School had been removed from the State's needs-improvement list last year. All five of our schools are now in good standing. Also touted was the District's spike in graduation rates—from 70 percent in 2018-2019 to 86 percent in 2021-2022. This year's graduating class also earned $4.8 million in scholarships, a 23 percent increase from the $3.9 million earned last year.
As you may know, our theme for the upcoming year is "The Best is Yet to Come!" We plan to continue working hard and working together to help this theme come to fruition.
